Welcome to UJHS:

Detailed August updates were sent to parent/guardian email on Friday, August 16. If you did not receive an email, please make sure you are checking the email account that you used to register your child in TeacherEase. If you are using the correct email, please check in with the office secretaries to confirm that you enabled announcements when you registered your student. Here is a condensed version of information that was sent out on Friday.

Rocket Center Upgrades:

The Rocket Center bleachers have been completely replaced. Please help us keep the bleachers in good condition by reminding your student not to bring food or drink into the Rocket Center in the mornings or at lunchtime. All food should be kept in the cafeteria. Capped water bottles are allowed.

Picture Day:

Aug 26 is picture day at UJHS. Students will have their pictures taken during PE classes.

Chromebooks:

Students received their Chromebooks this week. Please remind your student to charge their Chromebook each evening. It is good practice to keep the charger in the pocket of the Chromebook case.

Arrival and Dismissal:

In order to maximize safety for our students, orange cones have been placed along the no parking area at the Rocket Center exit/entrance. The purpose of these cones is to allow students to have an unobstructed view when entering and exiting the building to or from the parking lot.  At dismissal, please DO NOT block the cones with your vehicle, park or “line up” in front of the cones, or block the handicap parking spaces. Please park in the lot and have your student walk to your car or walk to the outside area of the building to meet your student.  Deputy James will be helping us to support this safety goal. We ask that you share this information with grandparents, older siblings, sitters, etc. who pick up from the junior high. Thank you for supporting a safe school arrival and dismissal for our students.

NWEA MAP Assessments and Social Emotional Screener:

NWEA Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) takes place the week of September 9. This Universal Screener provides important information that helps us plan for and meet the needs of students. It is also information that helps to inform the overall rigor of math and ELA courses and is an indicator of students’ readiness to be successful on the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR).

Social emotional learning (SEL) universal screening has also become part of our practice over the past six years. SEL screeners help school staff to determine which students may be “at risk” of not adequately achieving ISBE’s identified standards.  Notification of Social Emotional Screener was sent home with students on Friday and is posted in parent documents on the website.
